Prepare for your newborn session | Georgia Newborn Photographer
Beloved Mama, these early days—when your little one is still brand new to the world—will pass more quickly than you can imagine. I intend to create a space where you can rest, breathe, and fully savor the beauty God has entrusted to you. Here’s how we can work together to make your newborn session a peaceful, joy-filled experience.
The Day of the Session
Try to keep your baby stimulated and awake before the session.
If you’re able, keep your little one awake for an hour or so before we begin. This helps them drift into a deeper, sweeter sleep during the session, which allows us to gently move from one pose to another without waking them.
Keep a loose diaper and feed your baby right before we begin.
A full tummy brings contentment and rest. Feeding your little one right before the session helps them settle into that deep, peaceful sleep we love for photos. In the hours leading up to your session, try to loosen the diaper to avoid marks and impression on the baby’s skin.
Planning for older siblings
We’ll begin with Mom and Dad and sibling portraits first, so your other little blessings can shine in their moment before heading off with Dad, Grandma, or a trusted friend. Sessions can last up to three hours, and I like to keep the atmosphere calm for baby while making it easy for siblings to enjoy their time too.
Prepare Your Home for a Peaceful Session
If we’re photographing in your home, I’ll begin by walking through to find the most beautiful, natural light and the spaces that will hold your family’s story best. Often, we’ll begin in the bedroom or living room. Before I arrive, you can help by clearing nightstands or side tables and tucking away any items you don’t want in the frame.
This might be the biggest feeding day yet.
If your little one needs to nurse, take a bottle, or have a diaper change, we pause without rush. This isn’t just a session — it’s a memory in the making. Most babies need at least one or two feedings during our time together, and that’s perfectly natural and gets them back to sleep.
What to Wear
Choose soft, timeless colors
Creams, gentle greys, warm beiges, and soft pastels photograph beautifully and keep the focus where it belongs—on the love you share.
Avoid bright or neon colors.
These can reflect onto the skin and distract from the tenderness of the moment.
